This week Drew's Take Tuesday has made an audible and moved to Wednesday due to the holiday in Manitoba, but I'm still ready to give a hot take on football this week.
Tom Brady is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. In my opinion, that is largely due to being coached by the great Bill Belichick in New England for the entirety of his career. Now, Brady is exploring free agency for the first time in his career, I'm going to list a few teams that Tom Brady should consider signing with this year in free agency.
New York Giants
The Giants are a team that is rebuilding, but also a team with promise. They have a great tailback in Saquon Barkley who can take some of the pressure off of Brady. The one thing that may deter Brady would be Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones is a hot, up and coming quarterback in the National Football League. He is coming into his sophomore season, but shows lots of promise, and wants to start, and could feel slighted if the team brings in Brady, who would want to start. If the Giants are willing though to bring in Brady, he could mentor Jones, but that would be a grand vote of no confidence in Jones. It's a decent fit, but not the best.
New York Jets
This one would hurt Patriot fans. Seeing Brady in the Green and White would make them shudder, and the thought has maybe made them laugh over the last few years, but this is a better fit than the Giants, and Darnold really needs someone to take him under his wing and teach him the game, but are the Jets smart enough to make this move, probably not. That is why this is not going to happen, also, I don't think Tom Brady would want to do the Patriots dirty like that. If there Jets were smarter as an organization, this would work, but they're not.
Los Angeles Chargers
This one makes sense for only one reason, the Chargers need a quarterback. There is a way that this move can make a ton of sense. The Chargers can bring in Brady, and draft a quarterback that they are high on in the this year's draft and let him learn from the staff in Los Angeles and Brady, and when Brady is ready to retire, you have a quarterback who has studied under a future Hall of Famer and is most likely one of the smartest in the game. Although this can be all for not if they select an absolute dud in the draft, but Chargers, hit me up, this can work!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa needs a quarterback who knows how to play the position because all Jameis Winston knows how to do it through. Winston was the first player in NFL history to post 30 Touchdowns along with 30 Interceptions. He can chuck the ball, but that tells me he needs to be smarter with it. Brady can come in a mentor Winston, and start right away, as he is clearly the better option. Winston needed good coaching when he came into the league, would this allow him to develop, or is it too little, too late? If it is too late, why not bring in Brady for a couple of years to try and find the next guy and put butts in the seats at Raymond James.
Denver Broncos
Yes, this should happen, but John Elway is probably not smart enough to make this move. Elway is not smart with his quarterback selection (with the lone exception being Payton Manning). Drew Lock does look to be a pretty solid lock though at the position (pun intended). A smart move would be to bring in someone who can help Lock develop and become an even better passer, and since Brady is the topic of this article, why don't we pick him to be that guy. He can start and maybe bring another championship to Mile High. This is, however, all for not if John Elway is not smart enough to make this happen.
New England Patriots
This is truly where Tom Brady should play. It is just weird to even think of him wearing the jersey of any team that is not the Patriots. He has done so much for that club, including bringing them all of their Super Bowl titles. This team is trying to reload just to bring Brady back and give him a team that he can win with, which is what he deserves right now in his career. He can still win in New England, it's just going to take more around him to help than it did in the past.
Tom is the guy, but not for long, so he needs to be used now, not next year. The team that is able to secure his talents is going to need to have a team around him, but if they do, they could bring home the Lombardi Trophy in the 55th edition of the Super Bowl.
